When hosting a homeschool group, playing fun and educational games can really bring everyone together while fostering learning and teamwork. Here are a few ideas that we have tried (and some that we haven’t) that can get you thinking of ideas for YOUR group:
- STEM Challenges: These activities engage kids in cooperative learning while also developing problem-solving skills. You can try a marshmallow and toothpick tower challenge where each child is in charge of one type of material, promoting collaboration. Or, let the group tackle a foil boat engineering challenge where they see who can design the boat that holds the most penniesThe Homeschool Resource Room.
- Trivia Quizzes: Trivia is always a hit, especially when you tailor the questions to your group’s current lessons. Split the kids into teams and let them compete by answering questions in different subject areas. This encourages friendly competition and reinforces learningWe Test.
- Creative Mural: A group mural activity is a great way to get the kids collaborating artistically. Set up a large canvas or paper, provide paint and markers, and let everyone contribute to one giant piece of art. This activity promotes creativity and teamwork, and the finished product is something they’ll all be proud of. We Test
- Charades or Pictionary: These classics are ideal for getting kids thinking on their feet. With charades, kids can act out vocabulary words, historical figures, or animals, while in Pictionary, they can draw concepts from science or literature. We Test
